Handling Stressful Moments as a Security Guard
Every job has it’s moments and a security guard probably has more stress then some other jobs. Responsibilities that a security guard has that could result in stress might include dealing with combative behaviors at the job site. Learning how to manage that stress will affect how well you do your job.
Here are 3 tips to handle yourself when you are faced with a stressful moment:
1. Keep Control
When you are under pressure and faced with a situation where emotions could get out of control. These emotions could make you do something you might regret later and put a risk for losing your job. Try to turn those emotions into positive energy that will help you be able to deal with whatever situation is at hand.
2. Evaluate
The most important skill a security guard can have is the ability to evaluate a situation before jumping into action. When faced with a potentially dangerous situation, first take a minute to scan your environment. Ask yourself these questions: Are there potential dangers? What exactly is happening? Who is in the area? Where is everyone involved located? This allows you to prepare yourself first to take the proper actions that are necessary.
3. Have a Plan
This step goes along with step two. Evaluating your situation first allows you to make that plan you need to do to handle the stressful situation that might arise in your working environment. Studying your job’s policy and procedures can help put together a plan for each problem that could arise. The more critical it is the faster your action will have to be.m
