Security Guard Training in North Dakota (Unarmed/Armed)

Unarmed security guards are required to registered but not licensed if guard is an employee of licensed security company.

Requirements for an unarmed security guard in North Dakota:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • United States citizen or resident alien
  • Proof of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Good moral character
  • No mental disorders or defects that will prohibit performance of duties
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanors associated with violence (which includes domestic), drugs (use or sale), theft or fraud
  • Employed by a private security company and under supervision from a licensed patrol officer

Registration fee: $77

Armed Guard Requirements:

  • In order to be authorized to provide armed services, an employee must have reached at least “security officer” status.
  • A North Dakota armed guard must also complete training on a par with peace officers
  • The armed security officer will need to pass both a written exam and a shooting test.
  • Armed security officers must maintain continued proficiency.
