Security Guard Training in Delaware (Unarmed/Armed)

An unarmed security guard must be licensed in Delaware. In addition, they must also take a certified training course by the state.

Requirements for an unarmed security guard license:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Drug testing
  • Complete background check and finger prints
  • Must be hired by a licensed company
  • Must be a United States citizen or registered resident alien
  • No felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons
  • Must complete a 16 hour certified training course issued by the state of Delaware before applying for license.

  • Ethics and conduct (including Board rules) 
  • Patrolling and investigation 
  • Communication and public relations 
  • Observation and note taking 
  • Emergency response 
  • Access control 
  • Evidence Statements 
  • Report writing 

Application fee is $69 and $20 for identification card fee.

Armed Security Guard Requirements:

  •  Must have a commissioned security guard license.
  • Will need to complete a 40 hour course under an approved instructor.
  • Must have been trained in the particular type of firearm that he or she is using.
  • A security guard is not to use any items that he or she has not been certified to use.
