What Gear Should a Security Guard Carry?
A successful security guard is always equipped for the job. If you were thinking of becoming a security guard, you probably wondered what exactly a security guard carries with them while on the job. No matter what security position, a guard always is on the lookout for any suspicious or potentially illegal activities, and they need the right tools to accomplish the task(s) at hand.
Basics
Flashlight. Most security guards carry a high quality flashlight with them. A good flashlight not only helps when it is dark, but if the power goes out.
Walkie Talkie. If it’s a large event or facility, security guards tend to use two-way walkie-talkies and/or mobile phones to be in contact with fellow guards and/or supervisors.
Handcuffs. Depending on the nature of the job, security guards may or may not carry handcuffs with them, which can be used to subdue and/or detain others if needed.
First Aid Kit. Other security guard basic tools can include a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and alarm/whistle for use during emergencies.
