7 Types of Armed Security Guard Jobs
Security guards can work in different settings and have various responsibilities. Some positions are from those who are paid by companies to guard certain people, property, or even large amounts of money.
Below are 7 types of different types of armed security guards.
Basic Security Officers. Basic security officers range anywhere from guarding shopping malls, amusement parks, to patrolling at night to guard a commercial building. This position carries a salary of a little more than minimum wage. Their duties range from basic protective tasks like patrols and sentry duties.
Armed Carriers. An armed carrier is one who is employed by an armed transport company. They are responsible for transporting large amounts of cash and other valuables to and from banks and businesses. This position involves a higher level of threat involved so they are normally paid a higher amount.
Screeners. This armed security guard position requires them to screen employees and members of the public who enter commercial and government buildings. Such places would include, courthouses, government buildings, and other places of business. Due to the fact that they are often employed by government, they are paid better than minimum.
Surveillance Officers. Surveillance officers are officers who watch people and things through cameras in order to ensure the safety and security of people and property. This could be at a casino, or large malls. It takes a trained set of eyes to be able to scan over every detail on the cameras. This is a higher paid position than a basic security officer.
Private Police. When a police force does not have the manpower or time to provide security for a facility, they often hire private companies to help guard property.
Bodyguards or Personal Protection Specialists. High profile people often need extra protection when out and about. A highly trained personal protection specialists are hired to provide them protection. They may also provide security to their family members as well. Additional training and education is needed for this position and the pay reflects such investment.
Security Specialists. This is the highest paid and most trained armed security position. This position is the closest to being a police position, since they work to enforce law and order within specially defined areas, like an amusement park or other properties. Security specialists need to recognize security flaws in a property before a problem happens and know how to fix it.
