Know this Before Applying for a Security Guard Job

Being a security guard can be a dangerous job, especially, the role of a private security guard. You are dependent on guarding different variables, from a home of an executive to high profile people. Shifts are demanding and you have to meet extensive qualifications even get hired.

Training

Training is a big part of being a security guard. Most jobs offer on-the-job training for private security guards, but someone looking to become a security guard as a career should seek training before being hired.

Education

Each hiring company will have their own education requirements, but no matter where you work, a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Depending what security position, some companies may require a criminal justice law degree or certificate, or additional training if seeking an armed position Federal regulations require a guard to complete 8 hours of basic security training, 16 hours of on-the-job training, if you don’t have a degree or certificate.

Background Check

Prior to training and hiring, a background check must be completed. The background checks include fingerprinting and mental evaluations. No prior or felony convictions are allowed.
